This collection consists of seven cabinet card photographs of Montevallo, Ala., taken by R.W. Carleton in the late 1890s or early 1900s. One of the photographs depicts the students at the Alabama Girls' Industrial School (later University of Montevallo). Another shows haymaking in a field in or near Montevallo. Five photographs depict falls, springs, and bridges in or near Montevallo, often with clusters of girls.

R. W. Carleton was a photographer in Montevallo, Ala., from about 1880 to about 1905. He is listed in the 1880 U.S. census as a photographer born in 1852, son of a local hotelkeeper.
